Marcus was founded in 1871. It has become a city where people enjoy living and raising their families. We host an excellent school system, low cost of ownership for a home, extremely low crime rate, grocery store, library, two medical facilties, Historical Society, Senior Citizens Center, US Post Office, Community Center, swiming pool, baseball fields, Lions Club, five churches, proactive mayor and city hall staff, a lumber company/hardware store to rival any "big box" store but with outstanding customer service for your home needs.

 

Marcus offers one of the best volunteer fire and rescue departments in Iowa.

 

Our community-built, not-for-profit care center, which also provides assisted-living facilities, is a real source of pride

 

The population of Marcus, according to the 2013 Census, is 1,106 citizens. We're located in Western Cherokee County on Highway 143, just one mile north of Highway 3.

 

Ever want to live where your children can still ride their bikes around town and not worry about crime, drugs, kidnappings, shootings and traffic? Then Marcus is a place for you and your family

 

 

The mission of this group is to help promote the businesses and groups of our community.


The Marcus Chamber supported the following projects in 2017:
A 30 second ad on KMEG & KPTH (local TV stations) was run monthly in 47 different spots, Community Wide Garage Sales - Spring, Chamber Golf Tournament, Farmers Market, Fireworks, Booth at the Marcus Fair, Trick or Treating, and the Hometown Christmas.  The Electronic sign which will be installed soon and keeping up the Marcus Iowa website  http://www.marcusiowa.com/.  

 

These projects are only possible by the support of your membership dues. Other benefits of the Chamber include Community Coffees and Ribbon Cutting/Grand Opening Events.

We meet the third Wednesday of the month at 12 pm (noon) at the Pizza Ranch (even months) and The Old Panhead (odd months).

Marcus was founded in 1871.

 

The main line of the Canadian National Railroad skirts the north edge of Marcus; and just one and a half miles east of our city limits, is a 92 million gallon ethanol plant, Little Sioux Corn Processors LP.

 


During the second weekend of each August for more than seventy-three years, Marcus provides the community and the area with one of the finest fairs in all Northwest Iowa. Traditionally, the largest and best-attended function throughout the calendar year. Our fair provides enjoyment for all ages.  For 2016 the Marcus Fair has been moved up a week to the first weekend of the month August 4th-7th.

Marcus Economic Development Corporation takes pride in our town is responsible for creating a town and business friendly community to attract new businesses to our community. Here is their latest project - an attraction to our downtown.
