Marcus Fair in the News!

2012 marks 76 years of tradition that we've come to know and love as "The Marcus Community Fair". This annual event has always had a strong focus on family, and serves as a showcase of the talents of our youth, and others of all ages, by providing a means of education, exhibition, and competition. The Fair highlights our communities ties to agriculture, industry, and businesses; all of which provide the backbone to our community. The Fair has also become an annual reunion where old friends and family have an opportunity for reaquaintance, and remembrance.

2012 is the 28th straight year of free gate admission. Funding is made possible through various fundraiser's, county funding, state funding , grant writing, and by generous local supporters.

The Marcus Community Fair provides a significant economic impact on our community, and in turn, the State of Iowa.

A twenty-one member board works diligently year round to find, promote, and schedule activities and it works hard at maintaining an expanding fair grounds worthy of such an event. Other volunteers serve on committees and help us with numerous tasks during the Fair. Without this kind of support, the Fair we have today would not exist.

"Thank You" to all those who support and attend our 2012 Marcus Community Fair. Enjoy!

 The Fair Board

In 2008 writers and photographers of the New York Times traveled to Iowa to examine farm life here, past and present. During the course of their travels they came across the Marcus Community Fair. After asking to stay for a couple of hours, they ended up spending the day. This is a portion of the story they completed about rural life in Iowa. Full credit for the story goes to Monica Davey, Nicole Bengiveno, and Catrin Einhorn of the New York Times. We hope you enjoy it.”
